To the South of Cumbria sits Kendal, a beautiful, historic market town packed full of small businesses. The Market Place in the town centre hosts weekly markets as well as a bustling farmers' market twice a month. You'll often find some delightful food stalls including Sweet Treats by Martin Frickel, Cross Apiary, The Northern Pasta co and more.
The town centre is also home to some excellent independent eateries. Tilly's Cafe sits in Blackhall Yard and is home to some delicious sweet treats. Crumb can be found on the highstreet, which recently celebrated it's 1st birthday!
Kendal is also home to plenty of independent shops including Armstrong Ward, for gifts, clothing, toys and beautiful home decor. Ivy Bank Home enjoys a delightful position on Finkle Street, a lovely cobbled lane from the highstreet. Their little shop is packed full of treasures including candles from Heather Anne Home Fragrance, which are a must-try.
It can often be hard to know where to look when trying to shop small, but independent businesses are all around, like hidden treasure in busy towns and cities. If you're hoping to discover more small businesses locally, pop to some small business markets or craft fairs and you'll certainly find some independent businesses that you'll love.
